Cons and Pros of Upgrading vs. Reinstalling Windows Servers to Upgrade to BBCRM SP29

Hi,


We are planning to upgrade to Blackbaud CRM™ service pack 29.

At the same time we would like to upgrade /reinstall our current Windows servers and SQL servers infrastructure.


We are looking to upgrade to Windows Server 2016 (or possibly 2019). We would also like to upgrade the database server to SQL Server 2016 SP2 compatibility level 130 (or SQL Server 2019)


We like to know what are the cons and pros of the following two options before upgrading to Blackbaud CRM™ service pack 29 :

  1. Cons/pros of Upgrading all the servers in place (i.e. use the existing infrastructure).

  1. Cons/ Pros of reinstalling Windows Server 2016 and then installing BBCRM/BBIS.

    Hi Sadegh,

    Generally speaking, I've found Microsoft updates (both SQL and Windows) have become quite good in the last few years. I'd default to the upgrade route, but you should definitely try it out in a test environment first.
