Recreate Appeals "Progress to goals" via Report Builder that includes ALL Appeals, not just top 10?

We love the Reporting - Appeals - Progress to goals view in NXT webview, but it only includes the top 10 Appeals. Is there a way to re-create this using Report Builder/Dashboard? The Appeal performance dashboard is close, but does not include an Over/Under or % of Goal. Any thoughts on finagling this?

Hi @Amber Becker - Do you have Insight Designer?

  • We do not. Sorry, meant to mention that.

  • Hello just following this post, Can you expand on why and what steps can be used to recreate this in Insight Designer? Do you need to recreate the entire Report or can you save this report as from within Insight Designer and then build the changes from there in this utility? We have Insight Designer. Thank you!

@Amber Becker - Even without Insight Designer, you may be able to utilize some of the 64 template insights included natively to get the information you are looking for, especially the “Appeals Performance” one. It will not display exactly like the native report, as it is a table, but it contains a lot of good information. If you had ID, you would be able to edit this or any of the other 64 templates, and create your own insights from scratch.

@Darlene LeVielle - It would not be an exact replication but you could edit the “Appeal Giving” insight and switch out either the “Committed” or “Received” listing to instead include the “Appeal Goal” measure. And adjust the filters to further define the data set you want to be displayed.

  • Thank you @Austen Brown , This sounds good, I can try this. Can you also add here the steps on how I can get an aggregate column added here for the Count of Donors including Soft Credit Donors to this insight that I will build based on your feedback?

Hi @Darlene LeVielle - Unless you're utilizing a table, I recommend doing a separate insight for Donor Count. Also, soft credits are tricky in Web View, as I am still learning the ins and outs of ID I'm not sure how to specifically include those within an Insight/Dashboard. You'll likely need to do some experimentation to figure it out.

If you haven't already, I recommend you take the BBU class on ID. It is very helpful, especially when you are first starting out.

  • @Austen Brown I didn't realize there is one specific BBU class dedicated to Identifying, and Aggregate Counting of Soft Credit Donors specifically and in which RE environment NXT or Database View is the class for? I don't see it listed for NXT or Database View ( The class needs to cover them both explicitly ). Can you provide the Link(s) here? Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion, I was recommending the Insight Designer course through BBU. Here is a link to the learning path that contains the course on ID.

  • @Austen Brown Thanks again, Yes, I have already taken every class in this learning path. I still am unable to determine how to create a calculated field that provides an aggregated count of Donors that specifically includes any ID that was Soft Credited.

  • @Austen Brown I'm specifically looking for the “Over(Under)" measure that the Campaign Performance template has but Appeal Performance template does not. I want that measure for Appeal Performance. Any specific guidance?

Hi @Amber Becker - The measure you are referencing is actually a calculation; the difference between the Revenue and Goal columns. If you had Insight Designer, this an addition that you could add to the Appeal Performance template insight to customize it.
