Alum hired as a Faculty member

Does anyone have experience with adding a Faculty persona to an Alum account? I was wondering if the best practice was to make a new faculty account instead of adding the faculty persona to the existing alum account.

  • We use the same account so that the user does have an Alumni dropdown as well as their faculty area. The reason for this is because we link our data with Raiser's Edge, so we don't want to have two duplicate entries in the system for the same person. We want to know that the alum is also employed and can set their constit codes properly in Raiser's Edge.

  • Thank you. That is great information.

Agree with, Chris. It's best to employ their alumni record, update the email to the school email, etc. so there is only 1 record for the constituent.

  • Additionally, the system should default them to their Faculty persona, but you may want to double-check, just in case they changed where they'd like to land if they logged in as an Alumni (this is assuming you have anything for them to see as Alumni when they log in). If it's not clear though, I'm siding w/ Chris and Bryan. There are very rare cases where it makes sense to have multiple accounts for the same user, especially w/ BBID.
