What is your favorite example of including diversity, equity, and inclusion in the grantmaking process?

Hello! I am the Content Marketing Manager for Blackbaud Grantmaking. We are working on a tip sheet around how grantmakers can incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion into their processes. I’d love to include Community members in the piece.

If you have made an effort to include DEI in your application, in your reporting, or anywhere else in your organization, please reply with details. Not only will you be helping your other community members, but we will also be sharing this with our broader Blackbaud community as well. We will link back to your organization to raise awareness of the great work you are doing, or you can choose to remain anonymous if you would prefer.

  • Hey there

We have been using a seperate page in our online application form, to ask about the diversity of the leadership of the organisation and the area of work they support, for the last year as we want to ensure our funding is reaching communities most effected by systemic discrimination and oppresion.

We explain that we will use the data to understand more about the purpose and leadership of the organisations that we are supporting and that this information will help us to understand our applicants and grantees, identify any imbalance in our funding and help us to improve.

Recently we have updated this questioning to match the DEI data Standard thats been introduced here in the uk - and we have stated that we will use the information provided as part of the application assessment.

The below is UK context, but hopefully it could still help as a guidance point.

  • @Carrie Watkins Hi Carrie,

We have added a request for a brief description of grantee organization's racial demographics for CEO/ED/leader, board members and staff, following the chart, listed below. We are also conducting a Racial Equity Survey of all our active grantees as a tool to develop priorities and an action plan for the coming year and future.
