Offsite Gift in Kind donations

Our Habitat for Humanity receives Gift in Kind donations at different donation centres in our region. We are looking for a solution for offsite staff to easily record in RE NXT the GIK with the donors info on a tablet. Any suggestions on where I would get help setting this up?

  • @Randy Klassen - We use a paper GIK donation form for our various community locations to fill out and send/email the form to the corporate office to enter the donation in the donor's record. Since RENXT is web-based, you can assign users with security rights to add donor information and donations. I would strongly discourage assigning so many users to add GIK donations due to data integrity and other issues this may cause. For this reason, my suggestion is providing a gift-in-kind form for your locations.

    @Randy Klassen
    Seconding @Barbara Kunkel's concerns over data integrity with staff whose only duty is the occasional entry of GIK gifts. If you do this you will want to implement specific quality control checks for gift records and drill down on the security settings so that inexperienced users cannot delete or edit already-entered gifts, view sensitive data, etc.

    Perhaps instead you could set up an OLX or NXT event form on a hidden web page, for staff to enter their GIK gifts with a special link. You can set the minimum gift amount for that form to $0 and then they can enter the GIK gift with a $0 amount and an item description in the Comments box. The benefits are that it guarantees database security, is intuitive to minimally-trained users, and still allows the gift to be easily downloaded into RE through your regular entry process.
