Pick Up Permissions

How do you handle pick up permissions since there isn't anywhere to put them on the contact card? Our teachers and staff need that information at their fingertips.

  • @Angie Smith At the last school I worked at, we mandated that all approved pickups be listed as Emergency Contacts so that teachers would have access.

  • @Angie Smith The way @Jess Moxley describes it is how we handle it as well. On students' contact cards, the email contacts interface with Securly (our volunteer and pickup portal) and anyone listed in the email section of the contact card is an authorized pickup. Before the year started, the way we presented it to parents was as follows:

    • Listed parents were automatically authorized for pickup and would be contacted (by phone) first in an emergency
    • Any additional authorized pickups would need to be listed in the Email section of emergency contacts
    • For anyone who was to be called in an emergency, they needed to be listed in the Phone section of emergency contacts, they would be called in the order they're listed
    • If someone fits both categories, they need to be listed in both sections

I hope this helps you out!

  • @Angie Smith We also handle the pickups through Emergency Contacts. We ask that the relationship be listed as “Babysitter - can pick up” or “Family Friend - Can pick up" so that it is clear to our office staff the role this person plays.

  • @Angie Smith We use the emergency contact section as Nicole said. ?

It would be helpful to have a separate section as well for people who absolutely cannot pick up.
