Mass recalculating/updating grades after a grading period ends

Hello, we had a recent issue where teachers were not aware that Missing did not count as 0's so we had to go back and retroactively/manually put in 0's into the gradebook for the first quarter to update the students' inflated grades.

They did this and press commit and the grade within the gradebook gets updated.

After the fact, is getting to reflect them on the report card when reprinting--is there any simple way as a grading manager I could “recalculate" all these teacher gradebooks?

The only way I'm thinking now is to go into Grading Set up > School Year Set up, extend the grading period again, and have teachers do the Calculate + Save & Close step again or impersonate each teacher and do it for them, but this isn't quite efficient

The other way I'm thinking is inputting grades by class/student, but I know this will be just as inefficient since I'll have to have a separate window to look at each student class by class and manually input it, so if there are no other options I think impersonating each teacher might be the “best” way that I know of for now

Anyone have any advice?

  • @Nathan Ong you don't have to impersonate each teacher if you want to go the route for extending the grading period and re-calculating. You can go to Grading - Grade Management - Enter Grades by Class, then just select the grade plan you want and you can re-calculate the classes yourself. You just have to make sure everything is unchecked for review first, otherwise you can't recalculate anything. Unfortunately there's not a quick way to do it that I've found, just more efficient. Best of luck!

Is there a way to recalculate using the Gradebook using the Grading manager tools? I've only seen that option on the teacher persona.

I am not 100% clear on your question, but I have the grading manager and gradebook manager roles, so that might make a difference, but when I am in Academics and go to Grades - Grade Management - Enter Grade by Class - I can calculate a grade plan average there for a class or specific student if needed. I can also go to each teacher's gradebook to double check that grades have been committed or that the calculation method has been set-up properly if something looks off. If I didn't answer your question, please let me know - I'm still on my first cup of coffee! :-)

Thanks for that Vicky! I had not noticed the little calculator icon before, that's a huge help!

  • @Vicky Lopuchowycz I would also love a way to do this in bulk! We pull grades over midsemester and it is very tedious to do it one section at a time. There is an idea in the idea bank “Record grades in bulk” K12OR-I-729

I just upvoted this as well, we have over 500 sections in just one term between our Upper and Middle Schools. Our calculations are basically just pulling over the Gradebook final grade and rounding it a specific decimal place. This is something that we should be able to accomplish very rapidly, instead this would take us probably a couple of days, or I would need to have multiple people calculating the grades for our teachers. This could be a major game changer for us and our efficiency around grade posting. Plus it would take something off our teachers' plates and they could all use that right now.
