EFT Functionality for Canadians

We are new to Blackbaud and just before going live we were told that the EFT payment functionality in NXT is not available to Canadian clients. We are able to do EFT payments in database view, but still this was a huge disappointment. The sales demo, the training, the videos... so much talked about EFT in NXT and never once was it mentioned it's not available to Canadians.

I thought I'd ask here if there are any other Canadian clients with NXT in the same situation?

    Hi Sylvia,

Unfortunately, that is correct for the moment. I was working with several clients in Canada this past year and when I noticed one of my client's couldn't use EFT in webview, I checked with support and they confirmed, it was only available for US clients in webview for the time. They didn't provide an ETA so we would know when it will be updated. but it is planned.
  • We are also waiting for EFT and the expense management feature to be available in Canada.
  • Somebody did start an idea bank for it. Go find it and vote for it. I am so disappointed  that this is not available to Canadians as this was shown to us in our demo and training etc., only to find out just at the last minute that our only option is to do this in FE7. There has been a few things that have come up that makes me ask why did we even bother to buy NXT when we have to go back into FE7 to get any real work done.

  • Hi  Sylvia,

As the Canadian user, we are also waiting for EFT functionality in FENXT view.

Though the option is available in Database view, the system only produces the output file in "1464 standard" format, upon the completion of payment.

Currently, it does not produce EFT output file in "80 Byte" file format as required by banks in Canada for accounts having Dual Authentication (two persons required to sign) requirement.

Hence Canadian FE users are deprived of having full advantage of this useful features in FE. Please note,  we also created an idea bank for the same i.e.

"to produce EFT Output file in "80 Byte File " Bank file format" for Canadian FE users"

    Thanks,

It's now July 2022 and this function is still not available in NXT.

  • @Sylvia Cook Have you heard anything new on this topic?

  • @JP Provencal I have had discussions about this, so I believe they are looking at this more seriously now, but nothing has been rolled out yet.

  • @Sylvia Cook, we are migrating to RE and FE NXT this week, and in the testing phase. Have you heard anything new about doing EFTs in Canada? I am wondering if we have been sold a sagging horse re EFTs.

  • @Alain McKinlay Tilgner
Recently we have seen that we can send EFTs via NXT and we have tried it out. I have not seen any formal announcement that EFT is available to Canadian users, it just appeared. It is easier than in database view and it does send an email out to clients once you enter the email address. (First time paying someone you need to type it in and then it remembers them for the next time).

Something that we are still sorting out is the julian date on the EFT file. We have 2-day funding with our bank, and still figuring out which date in NXT updates the header julian date and which one updates the transaction julian date. We had it sorted out in database view but doesn't seem to translate the same to NXT.

LOL to the sagging horse comparison. I totally get it. Can't trust a salesperson. Same problem when we switched payroll systems. Promise the world and under deliver.

  • @Sylvia Cook thanks so much. This is good news. Our BB success manager also came back on Friday and mentioned that : "there are 2 banks in Canada that are not standard 1464 format, these are TD and BMO – 80 byte format, if you bank with either of these two banks you would have to contact your bank to request acceptance of the 1464 format." Are you using either TD or BMO?

  • @Alain McKinlay Tilgner
That is correct. We had to request TD to do the 1464 format and that was back when we had to do EFTs in database view. I am still hoping that Blackbaud will make the change to the 80 byte format and would like to change back to that when possible.
