BlackbaudID and Microsoft Account Lockouts

Our school has recently had a huge influx of students and employees reporting a bad password/lockout error from Microsoft when accessing our K12 system via BBID. They don't show up as locked in our DC or AZDC, and it's been a grab-bag as far as what works to fix the issue. We have cobbled together a process of:
1. Log user out of all O365 sessions
2. Set a temp password and have the user log into a fresh incognito browser with that temp password
3. User changes password and is logged back into our systems

This works most of the time although not all. All of the login failures show BBID and Microsoft hasn't been able to find anything that could be causing these lockouts.

Have any other schools who use O365 as their Identity Provider and authenticate with Microsoft for BBID experienced this?

@Jess Moxsky hi there! My name is Jessi and I'm the Product Manager for Core. I'd love to get a .har file submitted to Support for this issue. If you can report it through that channel, we can have someone take a look. I'll keep watching for feedback from others, too. Thanks!

Out of curiosity if the user goes to office.com for example and attempts to login does that show the account is locked out as well? Is this just a BBID problem or is affecting use in other ways as well?

  • @Brian Hoyt it is impacting all of their Microsoft logins - it happens that our students typically sign into the K12 system before signing into other services.

  • @Jessi Walters Will-do, thank you!

Are you on Windows devices such that students login info is pass through or are they typing in their password on BBID page for authentication?

  • @Brian Hoyt this impacts them at any office URL in addition to our K12 system.

  • @Brian Hoyt No, it's all SSO through Microsoft so they should never be entering passwords to log in.
