New Zealand Cities

Welcome to the wonderful world of NZ addresses! Address Configuration is one of the easier areas. Make sure that you pick “Display available fields for this country” = New Zealand and then the City field must automatically be NZ City, because it works fine for us, but it is just called City. NZ Suburb is also called Suburb here. Our addresses display correctly on records and in lists in NXT.

The address block for NZ should be

Suburb
City Post Code
Country (if you are not sending from NZ)

You will find that NZ City has different names in different locations. In some places, like Query and Export, where you will see a “NZ City” field but in other places like Constituent Import and ImportOmatic you will see TWO fields called “City”. “NZ City” is usually the second one, but it takes trial and error to test. There are even a few places, mostly third party views where NZ City cannot be configured.

The “NZ Suburb” field retains its full name more often.

One the plus side, because these are dedicated fields for NZ, the lists of values can be kept nice and clean and country specific. Except that Suburb is a required field in some places, like Online Express forms, Just Giving etc. and in reality not all addresses in NZ have a suburb (we have some really small towns) so those of us who use one of these products end up with “No Suburb” or “N/A” in our NZ Suburb list, and need to replace it with blank for incoming addresses.
