Alumni Listserv for a lack of better term

Happy Friday!

We had an alumni board member ask if we could set up an email address so that if anyone in a class for instance emails classof2008@ all the members in that class would receive the email. We use both Education Management and Raiser's Edge for our Alumni Databases (not connected) and use Google as our email platform. Obviously, we do this with our current students so that certain teachers/admin can email for instance students2028@---- and reach the class, but we do not keep alumni emails in our Google platform. Does anyone have experience with this type of request?

My initial thought was to se tup the email in Google for each alumni class and then the alumni Rep. of that class could maintain the email and could copy and paste a spreadsheet and email the class, but this wouldn't allow classmates to leave the “group”. This would also be a lot of additional email traffic on our domain.

Would love advice!

  • @Josceline Reardon I would recommend using your distribution groups and send the email via pushpage. If you like you can setup access for the alumni rep to send the pushpage from a template and distribution group that they would only have access to. The reply to email can be their personal account. At least that way the school would be privy to knowing what is being communicated to the alumni groups. I would not add this to the school's gmail account.
