Volunteer management in Altru

We're thinking of managing our volunteer services using Altru. Is anyone out there doing this and willing to chat about their experience?

  • @Jacky Schuler I would also be interested in hearing more about the volunteer options. We use Altru to track the hours of volunteers but would like to go a bit further on what options we have available. Tracking the hours is way better than we had in the past via excel but we still do a lot of things manually that probably could be done by Altru.

    We expect this migration to take 3-6 months and we are still mapping out what that will look like.

    We have a pretty good high-level picture of where most of the current processes will fit into Altru and it looks like it should be a pretty smooth transition. It looks like the biggest challenge will be implementing a volunteer kiosk where volunteers can sign in and out / log time remotely.

    Has anybody had success with integrating a timecard feature directly into Altru? One path that we are considering building an interface in Power Platform via the SKY API. We would love to hear how other organizations who are managing volunteers within Altru are handling this. Our volunteers are currently entering their own timecards and there does not seem to be an obvious way to accomplish that within Altru at this time.

  • @Melissa Wersinger Hi Melissa! I will definitely update this post as we move through this process. Are you using batch entry to input volunteer hours?

  • @Jacky Schuler We actually have the volunteers sign in manually on a clipboard. then we enter them into Altru manually. We try to keep up with it on a weekly basis because it can be a tedious process! I would really like to do something to batch the hours. We give volunteers a free guest pass after 40 hours of work. I pull a report each month and add it to an excel sheet that keeps track of the hours they have. I hope this makes sense!
