Adding 'Events' access for user

We've got a user who does not have access to ‘Events’ so I'm trying to add that for her. I go to Control Panel, Users, click the 3 dots next to her name, then Manage Roles, Security Groups, and Edit. Once I'm there, I'm putting a checkmark next to Event Management, clicking Select, then Save. It's not doing anything, so I'm doing something wrong but I don't know the correct way to add that for her. Can anyone help? Thanks!

@Brent Miller Under Roles, have you set up a role for Events?

  • @Marie Stark No, I just looked and there is nothing defined there. But I have access to Events, so how can that be? I can definitely set one up if that's what we need though. What does that mean to have a role for Events…what would be an example of that?

@Brent Miller - Web View access is based off of Database View security permissions. Check that the user has permissions to use Events within DBV.

  • @Austen Brown Where do you check that in DBV? Our consultant set all that up for us during implementation, and we're not familiar yet with where to make changes, etc. I've always done the user activities on the NXT side of things…

@Brent Miller - You'll want to go to Database View > Admin > Security > the Group the user is apart of > Highlight “Records” and select Options > Make sure “Events” is checked, and review existing permissions.

@Brent Miller I believe that for the user to use the Events module in webview a role must also be set up.
In the web view, admins can view and choose whether an event role can access, add, and edit events and participant records under Roles in Control Panel, Security.

Note: Events privileges set for a user's security group only apply to Events Management features in the database view.

  • @Marie Stark Thank you for your help, I will try that and see if it works. Is there somewhere this is written that I can use as a reference guide? During our implementation last fall, our consultant set up our users, so we are unfamiliar with how to do that now on our own as we hire new people. Our Customer Success Manager is not responding, and when I tried to watch a video about setting up new users that I found in the Documentation section of the website, it says “content is not available or is still being processed.” My hope is that somewhere a step by step guide has been written out that we can use for reference in these situations?

@Brent Miller - Unfortunately while there are two views, it's a bit confusing even for folks that are well versed in the product. @Bill Connors did a great webinar series with Blackbaud a few years ago on Security between Database View and Web View, I wasn't able to find the recordings but Bill's website has slides you can download that may be helpful: https://billconnors.com/resources/
Head to the section called “Raiser's Edge Security”.

If you haven't read Bill's book yet, "Fundraising with The Raiser’s Edge:
A Non-Technical Guide", I highly recommend that as well.
