Managing Duplicates from External Giving Platform (Fundraise Up)

Hi All -

Looking for some help. Our organization uses an external platform to process online gifts, FundraiseUp. It's a great tool, allowing us to be pretty nimble and agile in our online giving campaigns. Gifts are made online through Fundraise Up, synched to Raiser's Edge, and processed.

However, recently, we have started seeing minor gaps in data exchange. And we also see a series of duplicate constituent records. The differences between the matching records are minor: a capitalized address or zip code with an extension or the use of a middle initial. These seem like such micro data points that shouldn't create a new record, especially if the constituent email is the same.

Looking to find some kind of solution. Is anyone familiar with Fundraise Up or any external 3rd party giving platform? Are you experiencing similar issues? If so, what are some workarounds?

Based on what I have read in other threads, users are experiencing this even using systems native to Blackbaud. The manual process to routinely update Raiser's Edge and de-dup seems like the only option at this point. But our team is open to implementing new workflows.

Any suggestions?

  • @Justin Hudson We use Importacular from the Plugin section of Database view for our external platforms. It is usually really good at catching possible duplicates and not replicating them and also loads them into a Batch for you!! You can also have the file open while doing the Import, which RE cannot do. The mapping takes a little while to work through depending on how you are doing things at your org, but it is so worth it.

  • @Justin Hudson we are also using FundraiseUp (I LOVE it), but I opted out of directly connecting to NXT for this very issue, we create gift batches for all gifts (so we can reconcile amounts, manage duplicates etc), and connecting directly to NXT doesn't give you that option. We use ImportOmatic (the database view plugin) to import all gifts from FUP, instead of connecting directly to NXT, we export gift data weekly into CSVs for importing into RE
