GivBee for texting

I'd love to hear from other organizations that are using GivBee for SMS/texting. Pros? Cons? Any features you particularly like or dislike?

@Carlene Johnson We used them for a one-day event in November and it worked fine. Since it was just a one-time event, we had a plan that didn't get metrics (even though we had requested them). I will say that Mike at GiveBee was responsive and quick (but no metrics).

We investigated this platform but did not implement. It seemed to only allow for “Opt In” numbers to be texted. You could not upload a list of numbers to send messages to, so constituents would have to opt in first before you could send a text message. We wanted to be able to import a list and just provide constituents the opt out link. During that investigative process we learned that more regulations on Consents were being implemented across multiple states in the US, such that many of the texting platforms were moving to opt in consents only or they would block your text messages from being sent otherwise. Since then we implemented Consent channels on all our donation forms and sadly seem to get more Nos than Yeses on email, SMS, and even print mail. ? We have yet to revisit a texting platform based on this feedback from donors.

I use GivBee and enjoy it!

Like: no-fuss integration that works with NXT. Easy to build new codes.

dislikes: pretty shallow documentation or help articles.

Our use case is small right now. I generated codes that I printed on yard signs. When one of my colleagues is in the field at a project site, they put out the yard sign so passers-by can text the number with the code to learn more. This method is only as good as my colleagues putting out the sign…relatively limited. The other use case is that same yard sign at permanent oyster shell recycling sites. We ask people to text the code and we text back with a LO survey form so they can tell us how much shell they recycled. That works well! We get more info than a QR code because now we have their cell number.

Launching soon, we're going to use GivBee's responses to let texters “chat with an oyster." It'll be a fun educational moment where “any response” leads to the next tidbit about oysters and our work. When I was building the final steps of this chat, I went looking for documentation and couldn't quite find the answer I needed. Mike helped me himself but the back and forth took some time (not a deal breaker in this case).

@Kelly Bodie umm…. I would like to chat with an oyster!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful response!

  • @Carlene Johnson I was about to warn @Kelly Bodie to not get too excited if she got an influx of new sign ups. I want to chat with an oyster too!

  • @Spring Velazquez @Carlene Johnson

well I don't want to hold you back: Text Oystering to 844-944-3526

  • @Kelly Bodie I did and I love it! Was the conversation piece created using the GivBee app or did you use another AI Chat Bot provider?

  • @Spring Velazquez
It's all GivBee and my very skilled colleagues who know a lot about oysters. After we had a working script, I moved the pieces around so it could feel like a conversation using the tools within GivBee.

Just letting everyone know that we have decided to go with GivBee and are very happy with the product so far!

Would you mind sharing the other platforms you considered? I was at NTC last week and talked with Prompt.io, but I don't recall any other texting services at the conference that weren't part of a bigger package. Always looking to compare vendors!

@Karen Diener, the only other one we looked at was Texmunication which is in the BB marketplace. I reached out to them for info and a demo and they never got back to me. <shrug>

We specifically wanted a platform that would easily integrate with RE.

Mike at GivBee is great, so if you haven't reached out to him, it is worth doing so.

  • @Keith Wilson I'm late to this conversation but curious about tracking SMS opt-in/opt-out within Raiser's Edge.

With phone numbers you can click Do Not Call, do you use this to track SMS opt out as well? Or specifically set up SMS consent channels to then track consent? And from there, do you use the consent categories at all?

@Colin Rink We set up Consent Channels that correspond to a Solicit Code. We use the solicit code to remove donors from any text/email/mail list. I found it wasn't necessary to mark the individual number as “do not call” as the Consent rules are automatically followed in NXT for marketing emails and transactional emails (e-Receipts) still go through.

  • @Keith Wilson Awesome, thanks for the quick reply
