How to make opportunity status changes available?

I have access to update opportunity statuses as the admin, but I can't figure out in permissions how to give that access to a fundraiser. They need to be able to update their opportunities as they move along the pipeline.

    there are guanular security setting in RE database base where you can specific what a user can do with a prospect record. (database view terminology of Prospect = Opportunity record on webview.)

    Yes, I'm familiar with that. I'm wondering if anyone can specifically tell me which setting will allow for changing opportunity statuses. I have tried all the one settings under Opportunities in the Roles editor but nothing has managed to allow editing the status.

    These would be my first bet. Occasionally, you will find that you have to have some very obscure setting checked in order to grant access, but barring that, these are the only permissions I see in db view that relate to the Prospect tab, as also listed in this KB article.
