Setting Up Attendance by Advisories

@Jennifer Miller I believe that the activity/class/advisory does need to be scheduled in order to take attendance. Exactly how you do this will depend on how you manage your schedule for everything else, but you do this basically the same way you schedule classes, but selecting “Advisory" as the group type each step of the way instead of “Academics.”

You will need to make a schedule set for the advisory. When creating a schedule set, you use the dropdown boxes to select the correct school year, school level, and group type. You will need to select “Advisory” as the group type to create an advisory schedule set. If you use a block schedule, I believe you will also need to set up blocks for the advisory as well, again selecting the “Advisory” group type. We use mostly a manual schedule, so for us, we then assign the “Random” block to the advisory and use the “Per Section” selection for the schedule set rotation.

The Requests and Schedules area also has a group type dropdown where you can select “Advisory,” but you do not appear to have the same options to “manage advisories” like you can “manage classes” to add meeting times. The only way I have seen to select the meeting times is through the daily schedule calendar. I have not tried this for a block schedule, it should again be basically the same process used for classes or activities but with “Advisory” as the group type.

Watch out for the record method in attendance setup. If you want this group to be set as the attendance of record, you will again need to select “Advisory” as the group type. This option was not originally available to me and I had to call support to change a setting to make “Advisory” available as an option for the attendance of record. I cannot remember where this setting existed though, so you may have to reach out to support if it's not available to you unless someone else knows.
