Changing assignment grade display in assignment center?

Hello! I have an odd settings/display question: in the 9th and 10th grades, we have an interdisciplinary program across several subjects that all use the same 0–4-point, skills-based proficiency rubric for assignments. With that rubric comes an altered grading scale: we pegged the base level of proficiency at a 2, skilled at 3, exceptional at 4, etc., such that getting a 2 in each category is a sort of “meets expectations” level. This means that the assignments are not based on calculating a percentage of points earned out of total points—i.e., earning a 2 is not a 2/4 = 50% = F. Instead, there is a scale we have posted on the Bulletin Boards of our classes.

Anyway, there is a problem: when students get their assignments evaluated and returned, they can see the rubric with the skills marked with scores of 0–4, but the assignment always displays a little bar graph at the top that shows a points total and percentage, e.g., if a student received 2s across the board, they'd have 8/16 = 50%. This information is extremely confusing for students, even though they've been told it's not how grades are calculated and been shown how to use the scale we provide.

My question is this: is there a way to remove/turn off this bar graph so that assignments don't appear to be graded as percentage of points out of a total? I can't find anywhere to edit/alter the display of the grade to the student, and I really just want to remove this one function so they have to look at the rubric only.

Thank you!

    Hi @Robert Schuster -

I have a classic case of good news / bad news for you on this one.

Bad news: That graph cannot be hidden as it currently stands.

Good news: We are actively working on revamping what students and parents see when they click ‘see grade details’. That revamp actually involves removing that graph, and replacing it with some different visualizations. If you would like to see the prototype we have constructed and give us some feedback as we begin building this out, feel free to use the link below to schedule a meeting with my team and we can collect your thoughts on the potential update.

  • @Michael Morrissette - could this revamp be a bit more granular? We have some classes that are graded on a continuum in the Middle School.
