BBID Enhancements - Timeline Delay for Education

Dear Community,

When possible, we try to provide the advance notice you need before changes impacting end users are released. However, we can rarely guarantee exactly when features in progress will become generally available. Thus, our early transparency regarding the targeted release date inherently involves some uncertainty.

As a result, we want to let you know the timing for implementation will be one week later than originally communicated. Users of the education solutions listed below will experience the Blackbaud ID enhancements on Tuesday, April 23, 2024:

  • Blackbaud Billing Management™
  • Blackbaud Enrollment Management System™
  • Blackbaud Financial Aid Management™
  • Blackbaud Learning Management System™
  • Blackbaud School Website System™
  • Blackbaud Student Information System™
  • Blackbaud Tuition Management™

Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition by mitigating risk and maintaining availability of your solutions. For the BBID enhancement project, we took extra due diligence actions in our product development including:

  • Synthetic testing of high BBID login volume before release
  • Implementing the change for users of Blackbaud’s business solutions before education solution users (including your students, staff, and K-12 parents) to ensure all is working as designed and to address any unlikely issues

ICYMI: In March, we let you know about upcoming enhancements to Blackbaud ID (BBID) and the benefits to your organization, including an improved user experience and increased reliability of your BBID.     Thanks for the update. I'm guessing someone will update the documentation in Core that still says April 16th? Any chance this will give John's team time to update that “Continue with SSO” button to be something we can brand and identify it as a Student/Faculty login only? This was mentioned in the webinar.

    @Nancy Kierstead Yes, a developer on my team is working on the change to the Core homepage now. We expect it to be published by the end of the day. John's BBID team has not yet been able to make it possible to customize the SSO authentication method button. They don't have an estimated timeline on that yet, but I will continue asking for it :)

    We use SSO with Google Workspace. If our users select sign in with Google instead of Sign in with SSO will they still be able to get in? 90% of people have no idea what SSO means so even if I tell them I guarantee people will still select “Sign in with Google”

    @Nancy Kierstead I also added this in the enhancement portal as that is what support mentioned I should do. Since it is making things more difficult for the SSO user, it would be great to have that button read Faculty/Staff/Student. Also, changing this with only a couple months left to the school year adds another complexity.

    if your a k12 google workspace tenant you will need to enable the sign in with google via the api controls if not there will be an error trying to use sign in with google.

    @Jason Lewiss if your Google SSO users start at yourschool.myschoolapp.com, they will bypass the BBID page altogether like they do today - they won't even get to BBID to make a button choice.

    This is what support told me yesterday:

    "In response to your request, I can confirm that for SSO users, no migration steps are required.

    However, SSO admins must set up a new SSO connection between May and October 31 to ensure a seamless transition.
