Allocation Management Negative Interest

Hello. We have been using the FE Allocation Management in database view for several years. Today I tried to enter an negative interest as shown on our quarterly investment report. I was given an error message that I had to enter a real number. We have used negative interest before with no problem. Is anyone else using the Allocation Management for investments and has this been an issue?

Thank you

HI Anne, that particular error is not unique to Allocation Management. Most areas in FE won't allow a negative number and will provide that error. Off the top of my head, you'd likely need to set up a separate allocation, that does the opposite of your current allocation, so you can then enter the negative interest in as a positive number and let it allocate. Or do it externally, and then just enter the results as a JE.

I have a separate allocation set up for negative. It worked this time and other times for Unrealized losses, realized losses and in the past negative interest. This quarter, the realized loss worked but the negative interest did not. Just concerned that it worked in the past but not this time.

    Thank you

If that's the case, and it's still not running, it may be time to go to customer support. Now more than likely it won't get resolved on the first call, as allocations are so specific to each org, but can get the ball rolling to see if they can determine if it's actually broken or something else in it's setup / etc is having it cause an issue.

I did that. Due to the length of time it took to get a reply I went ahead and processed as mentioned. Thank you again. Have a great day.

    Hi Anne,

My apologies for being late to the party. I just signed up for the BB community. For a negative interest, I would set up an interest expense GL account to use for allocations. I'm assuming this is related to a private investment where you can equalization, carried interest, etc.

Thank you for your input. It was (and still is) weird that I was able to enter negative interest previously but not later. An update somewhere down the road perhaps? Take care, Anne
