How do teachers email a newsletter to their families?

Every Friday, each homeroom teacher currently uses Canvas to send a newsletter out to their families. In Canvas, it is posted as an Announcement on the course, and an email is automatically generated.

Next year, we will be using Blackbaud for all communication with our families. How do teachers post that newsletter and have it send an email to families? Most use a Google doc to create the newsletter. Is this done through Bulletin Board?

  • Hi, @Jennifer Miller. The process is very similar in Blackbaud. From their bulletin board tab, they could add an announcements pane or a news pane. While in Edit mode, the teacher can create a new announcement or news item, set dates, include content, etc. which gets automatically emailed to parents. (We teach parents how to subscribe to these announcements in their parent profile.) In non-edit mode, each of the announcement or news panes keeps a running list of the previous postings that parents/students can reference.

It is also possible for teachers to use the Rosters tab and use the “Send Communication to” button where they can send a “message” to all parents. This message gets archived in each parents message center and it also triggers an automated email of the message to be sent to each parent.

    Hope that helps!

Thank you. This is fantastic. I appreciate you taking the time to explain in detail. It helps me tremendously.
