Planned Gift Statues

Howdy, Our major gift team leaders are developing new Planned Gift practices & have identified some needs. One is to start using a table of 3 statues aka levels that start with a Verbal/Written Planned Intention. Prior to this request we were not entering any Planned Gift records unless constituents complete a planned gift form with some required info. We were managing identification of those who have stated that they plan to leave a legacy, but aren't willing to fill out paperwork by using an Opportunity Record with a unique Status = Verbal Planned Gift. Is your non-profit tracking Planned Gifts with levels/statues that start with a verbal intention? If so, how are you recording those levels? I'm offering a couple of solutions with a preference of using the existing Planned Gift Status field because it is a unique field on Planned Gift records that is designed to use with a customizable table. Even though Planned Gift Status is not a Gift List Output Field, I still like this option. A less desirable solution (imo) is a Gift Attribute. I dislike this option because it isn't unique to Planned Gifts. I really dislike creating redundancy - a field already exists that fits this need perfectly. My preference may be rejected though because of the Gift List Output limitations. FYI: I've recently lobbied for some RENXT Ideas asking for more Planned Gift field outputs in the Web View. I'm happy to share links if you would like to vote.

@Rene Rosengren I think you are on the right path using the GIft Status, which you can report on in the Reports Section/Financial Reports/Planned Gifts Report. There in filters you have Gift Statuses. We do not enter a Planned Gift unless we have paperwork, but every organizaion is different on how they handle it, but as I said you are on the right path. No we do use attributes for those who are interested in Planned GIving Information, WIll Consider and Will not Consider but if you have not need for that, you do not need to do that.

Thanks for the reply. I feel like the field is the right place for this. I just anticipate push back when gift officers won't be able to create a gift list filtering on Planned Gift Status. I'm bracing for the fact that I may have to create a Gift Attribute called “Planned Gift Status” so they can use Web View Gift Lists. We'll see how the recomendation is received.

  • @Joe Moretti Thanks again for your reply. I appreciated the reminder that the Planned Gift report allows for filtering on the status. I will add this info to my case for recommending that we use this field to track the statues our team is asking for which includes entering a PG in a verbal stage.
