Parent Attendance Login and Reporting

Hi. How does everyone handle student attendance with ease? We have tried emails, phone calls, and now even Google forms but still the students find ways to call themselves out worse than ever. Is there a way for a parent to log into the system and call their child out? Basically a solid way to footprint who requested the student be absent/leave early etc. If the parent is able to log in under their parent account and record the child absence or something would be awesome. I am curious how other schools manage this part of the attendance? Thanks!!

We've look into a product called Orah. I've heard from a few schools in this group who use Orah to supplement things in Blackbaud. It is a fully integrated product (two-way data flow with Blackbaud) that enables parents to confirm absences, along with a host of other features.

  • @Chelsea Fritz - we have an integration with SchoolPass. Parents are able to enter absence or tardy information which then passes through to the student record in Academics. We also use SchoolPass to manage dismissal.
For us - the integration meant that we had to create a new course that we called SchoolPass Attendance. We offer this course in the All School division (as opposed to Early Childhood, Lower School, Middle School). The course has three classes - one for each division. The only roles that can see those classes are the Platform Managers and Attendance Managers.

  • @Chelsea Fritz We use a rudimentary system: a parent/guardian is required to email a dedicated email address (HSattendance, MSattendance, etc.). Any student who is a no-show with no email to attendance will get a robo call home. As for leaving early, on our upper school campus, students must get a pass from the receptionist. The receptionist gets the attendance emails. It's clunky but mostly works at this point.
