MobilePay Terminal Will Not Connect with Bluetooth

Hi all,

We have a couple of Blackbaud Payment Terminals (BBPOS Chipper™ 2X BT) that we use for events. They have worked fine in the past, but in preparation for a recent event I am finding I cannot connect to these devices with Bluetooth. With iPhones (one with iOS 15 and the other with iOS 17.5), they show up as Bluetooth devices but when I try to pair it says “this device is not supported.” I'm a little confused as I have connected to this device with both of these phones before. Also when I turn the terminal on, the light goes green-red-blinking blue. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

    @Evan Webb I have only used a mobile device once and that was just last month. Is the app on the phones updated? Are you going through the app to connect or just through Settings? I cannot recall what specific device we have and I am not in the office to refer to our specific device. We used an older iPhone last month and I had no issues whatsoever connecting it to the mobile reader via Bluetooth so I don't think it's an iOS issue (I did make sure I'd updated the phone before the event to be sure things were still good).

    @Evan Webb
    I just started using this and did not have problem on iOS or Android.

    I have not seen any other light than green, but generally other lights means waiting to pair

    were you trying to pair on bluetooth in native bluetooth connection area? or were you trying to pair from the Blackbaud MobilePay Terminal app?

    I would suggest making sure they are fully charged then trying to connect through the app, not through system settings. They may need to update from the app which might be causing your problem.

  • @Dylan Medina Thank you for the suggestion. It does look like connecting through the app is the way to go. It did need to run an update on the device. It's been awhile since I've used this. ? Thanks again, this has saved me a significant headache for an upcoming event!

  • @Evan Webb Just a word of note, ALWAYS use the latest iOS version the device will accept, and make sure the app(s) is updated, LOTS of security and compatibility patches get applied all the time.
