How to create an 8 day rotation in schedule sets

We are moving from a schedule that had the block schedule tied to specific days of the week (ex. Monday, Tuesday and Friday followed a schedule, and Wednesdays and Thursdays each had their own schedules), to an 8 day rotation. So, the schedule is different each day for 8 days, then starts over on Day 1, and continues to rotate. I don't understand how to create a schedule set if the day's schedule doesn't always fall on the same day of the week. Any help? I'm pretty novice at building schedule sets.

  • @Mary Butler Hi, Mary - the “day of the week” setting on there is used with rotations if your schedule would fall into different times based solely on the day of the week. For example, in our Upper School, we have “late start Wednesdays” where there's a faculty meeting first thing and classes begin a little later. That happens regardless of which block it's on in the cycle. So that means we have two sets of meeting times: one that's on Mon-Tue-Thu-Fri and one that's on Wednesday. In other years, we've had a longer “assembly” on a particular day of the week (Friday), so we made a different time schedule for that day.

Next, the rotation section describes how the blocks flow from one to the next on each of the numbered days. Combine the time slots each day with the rotation of the blocks and you get the time of the blocks on a particular day. Our Middle School gets even more complicated with some double-length classes that visually take two slots. I'm happy to share our layout or offer advice on how to program yours in.

  • @Mary Butler You'll want to pay attention to the date span in the schedule set on the general tab. It'll be 8 instead of 5 below.

From the knowledgebase article about schedule sets:

Enter the number of days in the schedule set in the Max Day field. For example, if your schedule meets Monday-Friday and resets every Monday, the Max Days would be 5.

Enter the day on which the schedule will start. For example, if your first day of school is on a Wednesday, and you want to run a Wednesday schedule, your start day would be 3. If you wanted to run a Monday schedule, your start day would be 1.

Enter the max week and start week, in almost all cases these fields will be 1.

It doesn't really cover whether you want to change max week or not. But I hope this helps
