How do I set up the marketing email function in Raiser's Edge NXT?

RE NXT is up and running but we don't have email connected yet so that our gift officers, alumni office and event coordinators can email directly from RE NXT. I am looking for instructions on how to accomplish that task so our team can fully utilize that feature. I need specific functions and specifications for our IT department to make sure the email system complies with our security settings.

There are two slightly different features that are blended together in your post.

Email marketing is the tool you would use to send broadcast emails - a newsletter to your constituents, or an event invitation or email appeal. There is not a lot of setup required in order to start using it, but you will need to set up some default fields as well as your organization information. This article has more details.

Users can also send email directly from webview by clicking on an email address, but I believe they will need the integration for either Outlook or Gmail installed first. There are two free ones from Blackbaud that are available in the Marketplace, which you can find by clicking on the menu stack in the upper left corner when logged in to webview. These will allow you to send via your normal email software and log a constituent action at the same time. Make sure your users take care to mark the Action as complete, if necessary. I see A LOT of incomplete actions because this field is often missed.
