Congratulations to Blackbaud for making NXT barely usable with the removal of Journal Entry from Database View

So, after many months of complaints and feedback during preview events and other webinars from masses of users, Blackbaud pushed right ahead and implemented Journal Entry in webview, seemingly without any consideration of what the users were saying. And of course, Journal Entry in webview eliminates many of the features that we have had for years. The fact that I can't scroll through a 100 line journal entry but have to continually choose the next page and not being able to insert lines in the JE itself during entry, are just a few of MANY major annoyances. Really, I can't say I want to “See All” on a single page? I can't do a journal entry without using a picklist for every account and program?

I am sure that these general discussions are unmonitored, but maybe someone will start paying attention if we all say the next step for NXT in our various organizations is to look for new accounting software. That is certainly our next step….even after 13+ years as a customer

  • @Suzanne Moore I have found that if you go into a JE (either posted or unposted) and select edit at the top, it will open the full JE and allow you to scroll through all lines of the JE. It doesn't solve all the other problems that exist, but maybe this can help.

I agreed and moving the Journal entry to NXT makes entering Journal entries take twice as long without the ability to add a line where you want especially if you entering a Journal entry with 70+ lines.

  • @Angela Presley thanks but this does not fit the problem of adding a line in between an entry.

Using the Excel add-on for Blackbaud Journal Entry is an amazingly fast and easy way to import journal entries. Have you tried this? I've been using Excel to import journal entries for years into the FE, but the newest feature with the NXT has been even better. There are obviously a few quirks sometimes, but they are easy to figure out for the most part.

I agree that adding a line where I want it to fall in the order of the entry is truly frustrating. But I can open the full view of the entry and see all the lines.

I have a problem in NXT where random lines won't allow me to enter a dollar amount. The field is greyed out. I've been going into database to fix those. I don't know what I'll do now.

  • @Tanya Bakken
I understand that is a great resource but we can't access through our firewall. Another annoyance.

  • @Dan Cook
That is to bad. I did have to contact our IT Director and ask for specific access to the Add-on's. Maybe they can do that for you?

  • @Tanya Bakken I have not yet but will have to soon. I keep putting off entering Journal entry since the switch but can not hold out any longer.

    Thanks

  • @Anthony Block
When we first upgraded to NXT, I tried to use Journal Entry in WebView. While I didn't have any problem entering $$ amounts, most of the time it would not save the entries, no matter how many times I hit save and was acknowledged as being saved. Once you closed the batch, all your entries disappeared. That only happened a few times before I just gave up trying to use it and went back to database view……

  • @Bo Baggett
Exactly!!!! And it was some webinar that I attended, where I spent the whole hour reading the chat, and hundreds of people all said the same thing. They didn't/wouldn't address it then, no one attending the webinar paid attention to what they were presenting, and the few webinars I have attended since have had chat turned off and they are no longer recording them either

  • @Tanya Bakken, what I am doing wrong? I put my JE in an excel sheet and then always have to copy and paste into the Excel add-on tab to import in to Webview.
