Class roster/list with students and teacher

Hi,

I would like to export a list that has all students and who their teacher is. So far I have been told I have to create an advanced list. I did that but I do not understand why “teacher” is not an option to add as a column on all students lists. There are many configurations where I need more than just student and teacher, such as parents, siblings, birthdate etc.

Perhaps there is a roster option?

Does anyone have any helpful tips?

Thanks

  • @Michele Mendrick I see a template Advanced list called Student Course Enrollment with Faculty. Maybe that can help?

  • @Michele Mendrick I find it easier to create these kind of lists in Academics - Grades - Student Lists

You can pull any columns you want and filter them as well. You can even export them to excel to manipulate and share.

  • @Michele Mendrick Part of the problem is that very few schools are set up in a 1:1 scenario where a student is only enrolled in a single class with a single teacher. Each course is its own entity, so EMS treats every one of those courses as separate and the student is mapped to the same teacher multiple times. It's not just “here is the student, and here is the teacher”. You have the student's homeroom teacher, and math teacher, and reading teacher, and science teacher, and so on. Even if every student in your school has the same person for every one of those classes, the database wouldn't know that, because it's designed by its nature for schools where that isn't the case.

With that in mind, Coco's suggestion is probably a good place to start. You could also use the template Course Enrollments with Parent as a starting point, possibly searching with Homeroom (it defaults to Algebra, but you can easily see how the list query is set up). But advanced lists are pretty much the only way to accomplish this. Student lists are limited to school-level information and aren't really useful for anything more granular than that.

Thanks all. I ended up creating a custom field labeled “Class” and uploaded the teachers there. Now I can add it to any list through any menu.

I don't know if this is what you have in mind, but I recently created an advanced list that may have what you need. I needed the enrollment rows to have all the data on each line. There is much more data available than what I pulled. This is just what I needed. I did need to do some massaging and concatenation to get what I wanted in the end (columns B-D) as a course title to upload into another system, but it was pretty easy once I knew how I wanted them to look. But my main need was course title with enrollments as well as teacher.
