Faculty as students

Hello! We are a really small admin team and have had a tough time keeping up with faculty paperwork. We are interested in trying to use the BB SIS to track employees by basically setting them up as a student and “enrolling” them into a class, we are thinking we could use an application form in the system for an employment application, have a checklist for the necessary paperwork, etc.

I saw that at one point it was not possible to give someone both a teacher and student role, but it seemed like I was able to do that when I tried. But I am worried about causing confusion in our student numbers and also skewing enrollment data. I am wondering if there is a way to clone a student role and have employees basically enter on a parallel track if that makes sense? Has anyone else used the system to track employees in this way or a similar way?

  • @Amanda Polson I would not recommend using the student-specific tools or modules for faculty purposes. You're correct in thinking it will skew enrollment numbers and make reporting quite difficult. You can upload external documents to users' Core profiles using the Bulk Upload feature, and you can assign School Forms to your faculty members without giving them any additional roles.

Does your organization use Office365/Sharepoint? This would be a really great use of a Sharepoint site and would give you a ton of flexibility to create automations and notifications that might help make your processes easier as well. I love to geek out over Sharepoint so please feel free to shoot me a message if you're interested in that route! :)

  • I agree with Jess. You could theoretically use the Enrollment module, if you kept the employees as candidates. Not a good or recommended use of the system, however.

On the flip side, there's an issue where students CANNOT be employees during the school year, as it breaks Activities and Teams rosters, but I don't think this is the case. Even the past employee roles has to be removed.
