Resource Boards Categories & Links

@Richard Pan Things like Resource Board posts are built in layers of content that feel cumbersome when all you want to do is provide a single link, but across the system, allow you to use content that you create as building blocks in many different areas.

If the post is just a link to another resource or site, then you want to select “Direct Link” as the "Post Cover Goes to:" option after adding a new post. If you prefer, you can instead add the link as one element on a detail page so that after you click on the post, there is a link among whatever content is also on that detail page.

BEFORE you can do this though, you have to actually set up the Link. To do this requires 2 steps. First you will need to create a Link Category (Core>Content>Additional content types>Links>Add a new category.) Then you will open the category to add the link itself. When you create the resource board post, you would select “Direct Link” on the setup dialog box, and then select the category and link.

Others may have a better way to organize this, but unless I want all the links in a category to be viewed in the same post, I often only have one link in a category. It used to bother me, but I found it best not to worry about that. Someday I might try to create a direct link uber category to house all of the direct links, but I found when starting out that trying to combine things got in my way and it's best to not worry if a category only holds one thing.
