Importing New Graduates from Banner Student to Raiser's Edge using SKY API or other means?

Has anyone been successful in developing a process for importing new graduates each semester into Raiser's Edge from Banner Student using SKY API or API's in some fashion to automate the process more than having to do manual exports and what not?

The student and registrar side use Banner Student and Advancement is on Raiser's Edge and RE NXT. We converted in Fall of 2019 and have not imported new graduates yet into the system. We do have ImportOMatic and I'm currently working with my IT team to build an export/import file for the graduates, but that takes a lot of time and manual review.

I was just trying to make this process more seamless like it used to be in when the advancement office was using Banner Advancement. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Nikki - I believe my institution does this… Let me forward your message to the right person and ask her to get in touch with you directly.

  • @Nikki Long we use omatic as well , and it takes ~ 3 hrs to import 2500 new grads , but yes there is a lot of manual approval during the load

  • @Glenn Preston – Omatic's new Cloud platform featuring ImportOmatic+ has enhanced overall processing, and now includes a ‘Routing’ feature that can eliminate a great deal of manual approvals (based on your own approval criteria, of course). If you have not yet taken a look at Omatic Cloud and ImportOmatic+, please reach out to us here at Omatic. I think you'll love the improvements.

I know this post is a few years old but just curious how Southeast Missouri State is doing this process. I am from Ramapo College in New Jersey and we are in the same situation you were a few years ago, but Omatic is not an option for us at this time. Thanks!

  • @Diane Couzens We do use Omatic for this process. I will say that basic imports can be done in RE standalone, but it doesn't cover all the areas we pull from Banner. So it really depends on what information you deem necessary to bring into your system, which of course, always varies by institution. We then use the relationship records created between a constituent and a degree, to then import activity participation from Banner as the second part of the process. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I will say that our number of fields imported over from Banner well exceeds probably 100 or more.

And while I haven't looked into it, I know some other institutions said they have used Importacular or Smartsync for their needs, but they didn't seem to be able to handle all the fields we chose to bring over so we went with Omatic despite the fact that it was rather expensive. We don't love the price but we are hoping more may open up with Webview imports and things with the SkyAPI in the future and our school is now considering other options besides Banner or at least upgrading their version of Banner which may bring about other solutions. Only time will tell.

Thank you so much for this information! Good know about your two-step process, that may be a way for us to address the import.

  • @Diane Couzens, Just to note, our SmartSYNC product can import student information into RE very cost-effectively and in a low-admin way - that is if the price is the issue when using an import tool. Just Google ‘SmartSYNC nxt’ for more info or PM me.
