Failed $0 Automated Recurring Gift - can I delete it from the record?

This is my first failed automated recurring gift. The donor signed up again with his new CC info on a new recurring gift. I can't find any information about if the recurring gift that failed is terminated, can we delete that $0 gift. I don't want a $0 gift showing up on giving history. I know we can exclude $0 gifts, but that would exclude any in kinds that the donor has given that don't have a dollar value. Thanks for the help!

@Jennifer Redalen - You will need to terminate the original recurring gift; in Web View locate the recurring gift record > select “Mark as” button and select “Terminated”.

Next, it is not directly possible to delete a gift created in Web View, but there is a work around.

    1. In WV or DBV, create a brand new constituent record.
    2. Locate the $0.00 RG Payment record you want to delete > select Edit > Constituent. Search for the newly created constituent record (see below), click Save. This will move the gift to the new record.
    3. In DBV, locate the newly created record - confirm that gift in question was successfully moved, and then delete the brand new constituent record.

  • @Austen Brown thank you! I will try this! I did already terminate the recurring gift record, so that is good to go. I just wanted to get rid of the $0, it makes no sense to keep it in there as far as I'm concerned. I already have notes about what transpired, for informational purposes.

  • @Austen Brown Just to follow-up on what Austen said, you need to make sure that if it's an individual with the $0 gift that you create a new individual record and if it's an org gift that you want to delete you create a new org record. You can't move an individual gift to an org record or vice versa.

@Jennifer Redalen I just wanted to tag onto this, that Blackbaud has created a simple way to reprocess the gift once the new card information has been entered. We do not delete the gift for this reason. Our email communication to the donor asks that they contact us directly to update the card information rather than telling them to go online to update. That said, some donors still go online and create a new recurring gift, and that's ok. We do as others have said, just mark the other recurring gift as Completed/Terminated. I believe Blackbaud Portal is another option for donors to manage their recurring gift, however, since we have not implemented that I really can't speak towards the pros/cons of using it.

I just tried this to delete a $0 recurring gift and I am now getting an error that “web view gifts cannot be deleted from RE7” I also tried deleting the constituent in RENXT WV and it also won't let me delete a constituent with gift history. Do you know what changed or how I can delete these $0 gifts? donor set up a new recurring gift instead of giving us the info to update the gift.

@Jennifer Redalen Are you deleting the new constituent record? @Austen Brown's instructions were to move the gift to a new constituent record and then delete the constituent in DBV.

  • @Dariel Dixon
I have moved the failed gift to a new constituent and am trying to delete the constituent that I moved it to. and now I get this error where I never used to

@Jennifer Redalen - There are two other workarounds to delete a gift created in WV. Good to know about the error code.

    1. Create a static gift query with only that gift, and then run the Global Delete function.
    2. Locate the gift within Power Automate, and run the Delete a Gift API action.
  • @Austen Brown
the global delete is giving me this exception.

@Jennifer Redalen - Power Automate is a Microsoft Tool that you can use with the RE NXT to use data within the system and write back changes.

Since non of these are working for you, I recommend putting the gift back on the original donor's record and just leaving it be. Assuming you've marked it terminated or completed, you'll be fine - it will only process when it is marked as “Active”.
