Hiding the Query Feature in RENXT
Hello!
The “Query” feature under the “Analysis” tab in RENXT started showing up for our organization. There are a lot of things we need to delete and/or clean up, and many queries we don't want our general employee population to see. Is there a way to turn that feature back off until we're ready for it? Or a way to hide it from certain people altogether?
Thanks!

@Ken Willey - You can control access to Query (across the board, for both views) within Admin > Security. There is no way to specifically turn off Query access in Web View. I recommend prioritizing the clean-up you'd like to do, as “tables” has previously shown us that Query in DBV will likely be turned off in a few months.

@Austen Brown With the planned deprecation of the RE DBV Query functionality in approximately two months, does this also necessitate transitioning the RE DBV Export Utility to RE WV within the same timeframe? Alternatively, has the RE DBV Export utility been architected to function independently of the existence of backend DBV queries, such that it can dynamically generate "selected records" from RE WV without relying on physical query objects in the DBV database? Please clarify if the Export Utility in RE WV has been designed to accommodate this change or if additional engineering adjustments will be required. Kind regards, Darlene

Not sure why you want to turn Query off, I understand you want to do cleanup, but what is the harm of information that they already have access to?0 -
@Darlene LeVielle
RE Query in webview is not independent of Query in dbview, in fact, they are the same “source”.Meaning, you save a query in webview, it shows up in both dbview and webview. You save a query in dbview, it shows up in both dbview and webview.
Export functionality to “selected record” using query is just that, a saved query will be used as the “rows/records” to export. That saved query doesn't matter if it was “created/saved" from dbview or webview.
Hope that answer your question, if not, please clarify

@Alex Wong This is what I understood as well per the Connect for Success sessions, that all query operations are synchronized between DBV and WBV environments. My uncertainty pertained to whether the Export Utility relies on a mirrored environment for query activity or if it operates directly on the live, synchronized query dataset. Based on your clarification, it seems the Export Utility does not require a mirrored query environment and is designed to utilize the synchronized queries directly. Thank you again for confirming this interpretation aligns with the current architecture and there are not any additional considerations for handling query data in the RE DBV Export process. Kind regards, Darlene

@Alex Wong If possible I will turn off Query for development staff as well. Yes, I know they can pull essentially same things thru lists but we have already encountered several instances of dev officers pulling a list and used it for contacting people without filtering out those who have requested no email/requested no mail/etc.
Querying accurately requires a thorough knowledge of how and where data is stored in RE, understanding funds/fund categories, solicit codes/attributes, etc.

@JoAnn Strommen
Understood the perspective. That's fair.1 -
@Alex Wong It's noted that Query Lists might not convert to RE Web View, or potentially will they convert before DBV Query is deprecated. I understand that the individual queries within Query Lists will remain accessible.
Can you clarify how Query List functionality will transition to Web View? Is there a workaround for using this feature in Web View? Perhaps an example would be helpful. Also, what will happen to existing Query List records when DBV Query is disabled in two months?

Darlene - you are asking great questions of very credible and knowledgeable people, but keep in mind that neither one of them work for Blackbaud. While their responses are well informed, they are still guesses. I'm not even sure that the Blackbaud product developers have the answers you are seeking.

@Karen Diener Thank you for your response. I understand that responses from the Blackbaud community are well-informed but not official. However, BB Support analysts and others in BB meetings frequently direct users to the community for questions about services and features. Could you confirm if engaging with the community forum for such inquiries remains a recommended approach? Kind regards, Darlene

@Darlene LeVielle - Have you had an opportunity to watch the recent RE NXT Product Update Briefing? That's where I recommend going to get a sense of Blackbaud's timeline and what will be moved to Web View.

The community is always a great place to engage, but more appropriate for best practice advice about existing functionality. Users can chime in with direct experience about what they have encountered during testing or how well a specific approach worked for their organization.
You are asking for details about future software functionality - how it will work and when it will transition, for instance. No one knows this yet. I am certain that once the functionality is released there will be a lot of posts about what works well and where it falls short, but there is no way to know right now.
Your CSM would be the best person to approach right now, but I'm not even sure they will have details. Another good option is to attend any Blackbaud-sponsored town hall meetings to ask your specific questions of the people in charge.
