How to view Blackbaud from a parent's perspective

Hello everyone, I and another co-worker of mine are working on our communications effort with parents. We are trying to figure out how to view Blackbaud as a parents so we can communicate effectively. Any guidance would be appreciated!

@Chantal Beltran I assume you do not have the ability to impersonate users in your account:

It would be worth asking your Platform Manager to grant you (and possibly your co-worker) this task. You can then impersonate a parent to see the system through their eyes. That will also allow you to view the platform from a student perspective by impersonating a student. I'm happy to talk through this and how to ensure appropriate security of the system.

  • @Chantal Beltran aside from impersonating like Lauren mentioned, another solution would be to create test student account and add yourself as a parent of that test student. This gives you access to the Parent persona from the dropdown and will also allow you to receive email notifications/pushpages/etc. to preview how those look. On the plus side, this doesn't require the kind of all or nothing access that being able to impersonate does. The downside is that you need to keep track of the fact that you have an extra student in a particular grade in terms of correcting enrollment numbers or things like that.

  • @Lauren Henderson Yes, I didn't have this option. We ended up just creating a test student account. Thank you so much for your help!

  • @Troy Burki Thank you for this helpful tip! We are now implementing this method. I appreciate it!
