Fixed Asset Disposal without Acquisition Transaction

We use the Fixed Assets module to track both capital assets and inventory items below our capitalization threshold. For non-capital assets, we do not create an acquisition transaction because there is nothing that needs to be posted to the general ledger. Is there a way to dispose of these non-capital assets in NXT without deleting the record? This was always an option in FE7.

I would hate to have to create acquisition transactions for all of our old assets just so we can dispose of them.

@Lynn Grillo to do anything in FA beyond saving an asset, it must have an acquisition asset. Now you can set it to do not post, but it still must be created to do anything else.

  • @Kevin Brazell This was not the case in FE7. So I have to go back and add acquisition transactions for over 10,000 items just to be able to later dispose of them?

It was the same in FE7 / database view as well. To add them in bulk, you can import them into the database, this is how it would be done if you were implementing FA after the fact in the DB and bringing in data in bulk.

Here is the KB link for how to do a disposal in FE 7 , notice the note that says it must have an asset acquisition transaction : How to dispose of an asset FE7

Here are the steps to do it manually in FENXT now that we can't access the records in DB view :
how to retire or dispose an asset in FENXT

  • @Lynn Grillo Did you ever find a solution? Do you have to add acquisition transactions in order to dispose of the asset. I am in the same boat you were in before. Thanks

  • @Shauna Karasek I have not. The answer I received stated this was in the same in FE 7, but I know that is not the case. We are adding acquisition transactions to all assets.
