Specific First-Time Donors Query in NXT

I am trying to find a way to get a list of first-time donors to a specific set of funds as of January 31, 2025. They may have given to other funds, but that isn't relevant to this list - those gifts should not be considered. I have tried every way I can think of to get this, and I always get constituents I don't want. Has anyone been able to make something like this work?

first time donor to a fund must be related to some date timeframe if i'm understanding you correclty.

If John Smith (existing donor given prior to 2025) gave $50 to Fund A on 1/5/2025, and then $100 to Fund A on 2/10/2025. He would be consider a “first time donor to fund A” in Jan2025. He wouldn't be consider a “first time donor to fund A” when you look at Feb2025.

So that said, you can use a constituent query:

    • filter
      • constituent summary of gift amount > 0
        • gift date (date range to check if they are “new”, i.e. date on or after 2/1/2025
        • fund a
      • AND constituent summary of gift amount = 0
        • gift date (BEFORE the date range to check if they are “new”. (i.e. before 2/1/2025, i think it is better this way rather than date range between 1/1/2025 and 1/31/2025, unless you are doing “new donor to fund a this year”
        • fund a
  • @Alex Wong sorry to jump in but do you mind adding a screenshot of what your query looks like as I tried to run this and it didn't work so I am wondering what I am doing wrong. Thank you!

added gift type to simply include cash and paycash, this is to ensure you don't double count, so depending on what your reporting on, use the correct gift type in both.

perfect, this worked now. Thank you!

I tried the query you showed, but I'm getting constituents who donated to the funds specified in previous years. The only deviations between your query and mine is that I have “one of” six funds instead of your “equals” one fund, and I have an additional criteria specifying constituency. But I don't see how either of those would affect this. Any ideas? Thanks!

    @Cindy Miller
ignoring your other criteria of constituency, so simply looking at your giving criteria.

your criteria is saying give me constituent that gave to one or more of the funds since 1/1/2025 AND they did not give to these funds during december 2024.

So yes, someone can donate in nov 2024 for these funds, did not give in dec 2024, and gave in jan 2025.

Thank you, Alex. When you point it out, it is completely obvious to me. You are really helping me in my learning process! ?
