How to delete telephone numbers for deceased constituents?

Hello

I have run a query to find deceased constituents who still have a phone number on their record.

Is there a way to globally remove ‘Tel-01’ field data from everybody in this query? I have tried to use Globally Change Records in Administration but it won't carry out the action.

Thanks.

You cannot delete a specific phone type for only a set of constituent (via query).

Instead, you will need to create a new phone type to be delete (i.e. “To Be Deleted Phone”). Change all the phone type of the one you want to delete to this new phone type (i.e. this can be done via global change or import).

Then you can use the delete phone type plugin to delete this new phone type

  • @Alex Wong yes of course - I knew there would be a way. Thanks so much.

@Emma DarbyshireMezzanotte I know you didn't ask, but I am curious why this is necessary? It would be very low on a priority list of items to clean up for me, but I am always interested in learning more so I can advise others!

@Emma DarbyshireMezzanotte This seems like a total waste of time. Why removed phone numbers, addresses, etc. from a record of a deceased person. Records of those who are deceased would have the deceased box checked and so whenever you do mailings, phone calls, etc., you just don't include deceased in those lists. There is really no reason to do something like this at all.

  • @Karen Diener Hi Karen, it is low priority but is a quick process via a query - unfortunately there have been previous instances where an email has been sent or a phone call made without the deceased notice on the constituent record being seen. Removing the contact information makes it fool proof that the person's family can't be contacted in error. I also don't feel it is appropriate to keep deceased people's contact information so removing it is better all round!

That's fair. I've never had the time to worry about this, but it does make sense. I'd focus more on staff training than cleanup but you cite a good use case here and I can imagine situations where this could be a problem. Thanks for responding!
