New Applicant portal - Submission Errors Should be Verified on Forms Prior to Submission

It is basic form building functionality that there should be field validation ascertaining that fields contain correct values before submission. Blackbaud is a huge software company. It should not be expected that we as customers have to send applications back for revision one by one because the system can't catch field errors. Agreed! It's been a problem for me too as the restrictions on the field in the legacy portal didn't flow through to the new portal. For example, character limits that I tried to edit in the new portal, but it was a total waste of my time as the parameters in the new portal don't seem connected to the actual parameters in fields manager. And the applicant didn't get an error, they were able to submit as you note. And yet I couldn't consider the application…. I still have some stuck in my pending applications - awaiting a response from BB as to how to clear those applications. Quite disappointing as the legacy system worked really well for me and we've lost functionality in the new system!

Yes! Show me all the validation errors at one time - one-by-one is super annoying and a waste of my time. Plus as Monica Jordan says, applications get stuck.

  • Basically, why: if is a validation error preventing me from being able to consider it, it should be a validation error preventing them from submitting it. Seems simple.

  • I noticed a Release Note from March 12, 2025:

"When you select Consider on a pending submission with fields that are over the character limit, you will now receive a prompt that will allow an admin to manipulate the fields and lower them to an acceptable character range.

Note: Admin can change the character limits on the City, State, Postal code, and Tax ID fields."

Does this note mean we can only manipulate those specific fields, or that this will address the issue on all fields? Has anyone been able to do this successfully and consider without sending back for revision?

  • Hey @Kayte Wisor, circling back to this. I'm not getting the prompt to edit the field that is over the character limit in order to be able to consider the application. Were you able to find a workaround?
