What is the best practice for the remainder of a pledge when a constituent passes away?

The spouse of a deceased constituent is making payments on a pledge that was entered on her husband’s record. (Prior to him passing she was soft credited for each payment) When I enter the gift and try to link it as a pledge payment, it shows that she does not have a pledge. I was able to select load pledges, enter his name and find the active pledge. After I committed the payment, her record is showing as a Pay-Cash-Soft Credit, and when I go into the gift record, she is also being listed under the soft credit tab. (it looks like a double soft credit) Do I delete the soft credit under the soft credit tab in the gift record?

Should the pledge be moved to the living spouse?

Welcome to the community @Meghan Henson. I definitely would not move the pledge to the widow. The pledge was made by the deceased, and should stay there as a historical record. The payments should be on the widow's account. You will have to uncheck the box to soft-credit the spouse for gifts. I would delete the second soft credit. But make sure that the widow is receiving hard credit as well.

Agree with Dariel. Keep pledge where it is.

new payment should be direct credit (entered on) the spouse record, no soft credit needed
