Tables & Categories in NXT

Could someone please explain to me how the table categories work in NXT? Some of ours have no category while others get one assigned. Can we update them once assigned, or add to the ones that are missing? Some of the assigned ones aren't actually correct (eg Bibliographical when it isn't) Picture to show what I mean. Thank you!

    @Lena Payne They correspond to the type of record that the tables are found. For instance, some are custom fields for Actions, some are tables for addresses, which are considered Biographical as they pertain to a constituent. I don't think they can be changed though. You can add to existing tables. Not all tables can be edited, as some are locked as system tables.

    @Lena Payne
    The Category column in table management is not configurable by user. Any table that has a Category are “built-in” table used by area in RE that is “default functionalities”.

    For example:

    • Constituent Codes (Category: Biographical, Gift)
      • this is the table used by the Bio2/Org2 tab of constituent for Constituent Codes and Miscellaneous tab of a gift record for Gift Constituency
    • Classifications (Category: Prospect)
      • table used by the Prospect tab of constituent record

    Any table you/your org created, they will not have a Category. (i.e. attributes/custom fields that uses “Table” as data type).

    That said, there is no way for client (admin or user) to make change to Category, it is what Blackbaud said it is.

  • @Alex Wong Thank you and @Dariel Dixon - it makes sense but what I found is that if I add a new entry it puts it in the Category 'Gift' - can I do anything to fix this? Screenshot below.

    There are specific “steps” when done in a certain way, category is assigned. again, this has nothing to do with you who's createing the attribute/table. So trying to make sense or use Category isn't great.

    @Lena Payne I agree with @Alex Wong. I wouldn't worry about the category as long as you can place the table in the appropriate record. I'd only be concerned if I can't add it to a record in the way it was intended.
