Merging records and issues

Hi,
When merging records we sometimes run into issues.
Specifically
1. After merging records, it will not update past revenue and causes duplicate recognition.

2. It also causes duplicated relationships so the same constituent is listed more than once on a relationship tab.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

I have had similar issues when merging records, especially when the primary constituent on the record is deceased and changing the spouse from a Relationship record to a Constituent record.

Any way to help prevent this? Or you just noticed it happening?

I learned that if a spouse is soft-credited for the other spouse's gift, it will show up twice when the records are merged. I also learned (the hard way) that if I didn't merge the giving history that if the constituent dies with an open active pledge and the surviving spouse continues to make payments, those payments can only be recorded as cash gifts, not as payments toward the pledge.

To prevent duplicate relationship records, I compare the Merge Record and Target record and de-select the Relationships tab as a Merge field if the relationships appear on both records.

    Thank you
This helps a lot. I'll relay this to our gifts and records team
