One person, two organizations

We work with lots of community groups. I have a contact who is the grants contact for 2 different organizations, with 2 different email addresses. When he applied for the most recent round of funding, the new email address overwrote the first one. The first application was in the legacy portal. How would you handle this - just create a second contact record for the legacy portal application since the original one was overwritten?

Also, adding a vote to bring back the ability to select which info is updated for new records!

  • @Monica Jordan That's probably what we would do. Our contact records are pretty messy, due in part to issues like this. Once you have 2 records for the contact, the consider process will display both of them and you can choose which to attach to the particular application submitted.

I totally agree - it's better to have 'duplicate' contact records than to have a letter or email go to the wrong organization. Otherwise, every time they apply the information gets changed back and forth from one organization to the other.

  • @Sally Kalra This is what we do as well - multiple records for one person. We work with so many small organizations that often times people are associated with more than one organization. If they have unique email addresses for each organization, it makes it a little easier.
