Validate a user identity token fails

Hi, hoping for some help! All my Power Automate flows using my buttons in RENxt are failing and giving 502 errors. The flow itself shows a BadRequest on the “Validate a user identity token” step. I have checked in my application that the application ID is correct and that the button is calling the right power automate http URL in the manual trigger. Not sure where else to look to fix this?

Comments

  • @Kim Leblanc I am facing the same issue. My flow was working perfectly until this Monday, but when I tried to run it on Wednesday, without making a single change in those two days, it started failing with the ‘BadRequest’ error.

  • @Varun Mulchandani, I noticed that my flows were all succeeding until the 10th as well so they must have changed something. A small workaround to this for now is to remove that Validate a User Token step altogether - that has worked for my flows (granted - not the most secure) and allows my buttons to work.

    I have one button that creates a contact report. That report has always come from my email address based on the flow, but a coworker mentioned that these reports are now showing as coming directly from the fundraiser's email address and it seems that this change coincides with the error we are getting.

    I have many sky add-in using validate a user identify token action and they have been working no problem. this is to say that there appears to not be a universal issue with blackbaud.

    a lot of times what I see is you may have to used the wrong connection to the wrong environment, b/c there is no way to tell from the connection name which enivronemnt connection you have. So that's where creating a new connection, prompt to login and select the right RE NXT envrionemtn may help.

  • @Alex Wong @Kim Leblanc I did try creating a new connection, signed in and connected it to the proper environment, but the flow is still failing at ‘Validate User ID Token’ step (after testing it in the proper environment). I would also like to note that I am getting 400 response status code, while Kim's error code is different, even though our errors are the same.

    @Varun Mulchandani
    since validate uit is using 2 info: uit and application id

    do you have more than one application?

    have you check the envrionment of the application?

    any chance anyone else have access to the application that can “change” it?

  • I am also getting the same issue on an adaptive card flow. I get the following message “Action 'Validate_a_user_identity_token' failed: Unhandled operation ID 'ValidateUserIdentityToken'” This only started on Monday as well.

    We're based in the UK so it might be regional thing with BlackBaud in Europe. The app worked no problem up to this date. I have tested and removing the step to validate the user token worked.

    @Stefan Riddock
    if it has been working and you are certain no one has done anything to the dev application and flow. Then submit a BB Support ticket indicating as such.

  • @Kim Leblanc I am also experiencing this issue, also in the UK. No changes to flows or application but all flows now failing with Unhandled operation ID 'ValidateUserIdentityToken'. On the advice of support, I tried creating the simplest possible flow from the “Trigger a flow from a SKY Add-in button” template in a new application, but this returned the same exception.

    Here's the details of the request/response. I've removed the uit and application_id for security, but these looked sensible, and the exception message appears to implicate the method itself rather than the values:

    Input:
    { "host": {

    "connectionReferenceName": "shared_blackbaudskyaddins",

    "operationId": "ValidateUserIdentityToken"

    },

    "parameters": {

    "body/uit": "---",

    "body/application_id": "---"

    }}
    Output:
    {
    "error": { "message": "Unhandled operation ID 'ValidateUserIdentityToken'" }
    }

  • Hi all,

    Just to +1 Alex's comment - if you're having trouble with validating user identity tokens and this was working previously, make sure you engage Blackbaud Support so that the proper team within Blackbaud is engaged (and to ensure you get notified when a fix or solution is available).

    Fwiw, I just tested an add-in for the RENXT Home page tile dashboard and it worked correctly for me. So make sure you report any problems to Blackbaud Support as this may require some deeper investigation.

    @Joel Henthorn
    please provide the support case #

    @Erik Leaver can you follow through wtih support on this. Appears to be trouble outside U.S.

  • @Alex Wong I raised my issue with Blackbaud Support, and they directed me to

    They also asked me to reach out to the community page

    stating that there support for Power Automate is very limited.

    @Varun Mulchandani Support often has difficulty understanding what might be a core platform issue vs an issue around a customization. I'll find your case number & comment on it so we can get it logged for investigation.

    I updated my support ticket with a link to this discussion, and received the following update:

    Blackbaud Support Case 019997930:
    Upon further internal discussion, it seems there is something that will need to be addressed on our end to fix the issue. It seems there is something between Blackbaud and Microsoft that will need to be rectified, based on the information I have so far. It also appears to be an issue affecting specifically our UK clients.

    That said, I have raised this as an issue with our engineering team. Moving forward they will be addressing the issue and I will keep you updated on the progress.

  • @Joel Henthorn, @Alex Wong - I just spoke to my account specialist and she mentioned to put in a support case as well. Would you mind keeping me updated as well? Support Case 020000142

  • @Kim Leblanc

    I'm also getting the same error on a previously working flow. Started on Feb 11th. I'm in Canada.

    Going to submit a support ticket.

  • @Kim Leblanc @Erik Leaver I was wondering if anyone has an update on the issue? I still have not heard back from Blackbaud, and the action is still failing in Power Automate.

    @Varun Mulchandani The issue has been remediated in the code and we are now waiting for Microsoft to roll out the updates across regions. They deploy updates over a 4 week schedule to their different regions so I don't have an exact date your region will receive the update. But it's coming. Once deployment starts, we don't have any visibility into the progress unfortunately.

  • @Erik Leaver Thanks for the update!

  • Hi @Erik Leaver. The Validate User ID Token is still not working. I was wondering if you have any further updates about the issue? Also, you said the updates deployment vary depending on the region. I am in Canada. Do you know when the updates will be rolled out for Canada?

    @Varun Mulchandani Sorry as I've been OOO a bit - it looks like the update has been pushed to all regions. Are you seeing resolution?

  • @Erik Leaver Yes its resolved now. Thanks for the help!
