Will there be an option in the future for non-users (e.g. board members, volunteers, etc.) to be marked as "Fundraisers" in RE NXT, similar to the way we can mark any constituent as a "Solicitor" in database view?
Anyone else in the same boat? We want to be able to mark non-users (folks who aren't staff working in our database) as a Fundraiser on the NXT side. We have many board members and active volunteers who genuinely solicit on our behalf, but certainly are not users working in our database. We don't need to see a workflow for those folks, and we DEFINITELY aren't going to pay to add them as users on our account. Why was this changed from the easy checkbox on database view to now having to link a "Fundraiser" to an account user?

@Marcy DiBlasio I did not realize they had added that restriction. That definitely does not work if the individual is only a gift solicitor.

@Marcy DiBlasio Can you just mark them as a solicitor in DB view? I thought these terms were interchangeable, but are you saying that Fundraisers in NXT have to be a user as well? I thought they just had to have a constituent record.

I see a lot of confusion around this. When you say “we don't need to see a workflow for these folks…” I think you mean Work Center. Constituents can be marked as fundraisers and not have a Work Center. That isn't new - that has always been the case.
To enable a work center, you DO need to create a user account and link that user to their constituent record. But if you don't want someone to have a work center, you don't need to take that step.
Mark any constituent as a solicitor in database view (or fundraiser in webview) and you will be able to assign them to constituent records, actions, proposals / opportunities, etc. I think that is what you are looking to do. If not, please reply!0 -
@Karen Diener That works in database view. It appears in webview you can no longer do that.

Could you clarify what it is that works in database view but not webview?
Before I responded, I marked someone as a solicitor and was able to assign them to a constituent record in webview, but there may be more specific functionality you are looking for that I did not test.0 -
@Karen Diener Unless I am mistaken, I think Marcy just needs to add a gift solicitor credit, not an assignment.

That is also possible in webview. It is really annoying to do, but the functionality does exist.

@Karen Diener But it tells you to link to a user which is not always what we would want.

What steps were you taking when you came to this screen?
I have no problem linking someone as a fundraiser to a gift in webview, and they do not have a user account.

I believe the issue Marie is having is that while it's easy to link someone as a Fundraiser to a Gift in web view once someone is already set up as a Fundraiser, you are not able to set up a person as a Fundraiser in web view unless that person has an RE login. I have run into the same issue, as we also have board members, etc. who fundraise for us but but are not and will never be users in RE.
To get to the screen Marie mentioned, navigate to a constituent account who's not already marked as a Fundraiser. Select “Mark As," then click “Fundraiser” and will will receive this screen. As this field is required in web view, it is impossible in web view to assign a constituent as a Fundraiser without that person also having an RE login. I spoke to support a little while back about this issue and was advised to mark the constituent as a Solicitor in database view, which does not require the constituent to have an RE login. The constituent will then be marked as a Fundraiser in web view and can be given credit for a gift.
My concern is that this functionality will not be moved to web view before database view goes away.

@Karen Diener I open a constituent and select Mark as Fundraiser.

@Marie Stark I do this as well in database view, but, once that goes away, my question will become more urgent!
1 -
@Karen Diener Actually, I do want to assign some of our non-users as Fundraisers for particular constituents. That's where the functionality in Web View falls short.

@Karen Diener As it stand now, this will no longer work for non-users when database view sunsets and web view is all we have left. I do want to assign non-users as long-term fundraisers for certain constituents.

@Marie Stark That is what I believe needs to be changed. I certainly can't be the only RE user out here who has non-users (e.g. board members and volunteers) who are doing actual fundraising. Staff-driven fundraising is not the best plan for success. I can't imagine that Blackbaud expects all fundraisers to be users of the database. If so, is that a way to get us to pay to have more users on our accounts?

@Karen Diener In web view, only users can be marked as fundraisers. You must link a constituent who you want to mark as a fundraiser to a USER. Though it can be accomplished through the back door by marking a constituent (e.g. board member) as a solicitor in database view now, and that carries over to web view, once database view sunsets, that functionality goes away.

@Dariel Dixon In web view, only users (staff) can be marked as fundraisers. I currently do the process of marking someone as a solicitor in database view, and it translates to them being marked as a fundraiser in web view, but, when database view is completely eliminated, this two-step process will no longer be possible. All I can do is hope that I can retire before database view is completely eliminated.

@Marcy DiBlasio We definitely have board members and other non users as gift solicitors.

Thanks for this clarification!
Do not assume that the way things work today is how things will work when Blackbaud starts disabling database view.
The Idea Bank can be a black hole, but that is where Blackbaud has asked customers to add functionality requests, so that is what I recommend. Add a new idea if one does not exist, and vote up any idea that does exist. Post links to ideas in this same thread so everyone following it now - or reviewing it in the future - can vote.1 -

It sounds like you already have a workaround. I don't quite understand the problem? Like @Karen Diener stated, creating an idea in the idea bank and giving the issue some visibility is proper means of addressing it. Database view isn't going away for some time from today (unless you're reading this in the future), so planning on retiring doesn't seem like a worthwhile thing, at least for this. Especially for something that has a workaround for now.
EDIT: @Marcy DiBlasio it looks like you created an idea for this in the idea bank. Please link to it so that we can vote for it.

@Marcy DiBlasio There is also this idea in the bank from last year. I've asked them to be merged.
