Role Delineation/System Functions

We are looking to enhance our security and wondered if any FENXT users have done a Role exercise designed to delineate system roles based on responsibilities/tasks or found a way to better understand security options/functions. Open to hearing suggestions or current practices. Thanks!

I've had a support case open for almost two months now trying to get Blackbaud to tell me exactly what permissions are granted if I check a particular box in “Role Management.” They can't tell me.

Same concern here. I would like to see a listing of ALL permissions that are available in role management, as well as a description of the functions to determine if they are appropriate for our users.

@Chris Uzun and everyone, permissions and available roles can vary depending on what you own within Financial Edge NXT capabilities. There is a large Help Topic that drills in and helps you navigate the varying roles and permissions and how you can edit/review them, starting with ‘Security Overview’. You can dig into Permissions, Feature Areas, Roles, Tasks, etc. but you can dig into the roles your organization has using this as a guide so you can really explore the options. It's very similar to the level of granularity available in database view, just organized a little differently.
We also have a great eLearning available on Security you can check out. Hope this helps!

I don't know if you have access to Case Central. If so, the case # is 020055477. The issue is what box needs to be checked in order to give a user the ability to see, but not edit the check alignment settings in Banks. Here is a quote from my Shared components to Jendayi on 05-30-25 “In working through the steps outlined in the KB article, step # 5 states “At a minimum, mark the appropriate permissions for the Bank Accounts as desired (e.g., View, Add, Edit, or Delete).” It doesn’t tell me what each permission means though. Here is a picture of the current settings. Please tell me what box I should check in order for the user to be able to see, but not change the alignment settings? ” I then pasted the attached picture. I want to know 2 things:
what box to check and
if I check that box, what is the list of authorities I'm granting by checking the box.

Here is the latest I've received from support regarding this issue “While there isn’t a formal document that outlines each specific permission, this behavior is consistent with standard system design—edit access implies full visibility and control over editable elements.” I added the emphasis.

@Kevin McShane Hey Kevin. I didnt hear back from anyone, but I was able to find a 'Knowledge Base' within Database view that describes each permission and it's function (within DB view, Help, Financial Edge Help Topics). It still took some testing but after documenting all the permissions and their function, I was able to rebuild the roles for our organization.

Wow, that seems very odd that Blackbaud has all these security features, but makes you reach out to support to figure out what they do. Sure, some are fairly self explanatory, however a number of options are not. Should I send a screenshot of the admin page to support and ask for an explanation of what each item does?

This seems like a gap in Blackbaud's support materials which should be addressed.

I was hoping there was a resolution to this by now. I am looking for a document that lists the functionality that each check box grants when setting up security roles. When I reached out to Blackbaud almost a year ago, I was told that no such thing exists. Has anyone found anything yet that they can share? This seems like something so basic that should be readily available.
