Bing Maps Retirement - June 30 2025

Hi everyone,

We recently received notification from Microsoft that Bing Maps for Enterprise is being deprecated, with free and basic accounts ending on June 30, 2025. We use a Bing Maps API key in Blackbaud CRM for the mapping and geocoding functionality.

According to Microsoft's communication, all applications using Bing Maps for Enterprise will need to migrate to Azure Maps before the retirement date to avoid service disruptions.

Has anyone else received this notification? I'm wondering:

How will this retirement impact the mapping features in Blackbaud CRM?
Are others in the community actively using the mapping functionality with Bing Maps credentials?
Has anyone already started the migration process or received guidance from Blackbaud support?
Will Blackbaud be updating CRM to support Azure Maps, or do we need to handle this migration ourselves?

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated as we plan our next steps.

Thanks for sharing this information. I am not in BBD CRM but another Blackbaud tool (Fundraiser Performance Management) and our product mapping is with Mapbox (according to the attributions on maps from the site). I'm not sure what this info means for the changes to Bing and am adding here in case it hs helpful.

We are following up with Blackbaud Support around options, such as a Blackbaud provided key, as well as have reached out to Microsoft about upgrading our account to an Enterprise account, which will continue to be supported until June 2028.

I'll let you know how we progress.

It would also be interesting to hear from the product team, if there are plans to move away from Bing Maps to a current mapping platform, and any time frames on this.

How are you doing geocoding? Is it via the customisation developed by Plan, which we use, or some other means?

Please let us know what you find out from BB Support (and Microsoft for that matter).

Hi @David Wanless. As discussed, we are using the out of the box geocoding/mapping feature, that uses a Bing Maps API key to connect to first geocode an address, and then once geocoded can display the address/constituent on maps and radius searches etc. ?

Thanks, @Simon Watson. I was wrong about us using a Plan customisation. I was confusing that with Address Validation. We just use out-of-the-box geocoding.

Greetings from the Blackbaud team. I have met with our engineers, and you are correct. If you are using an Enterprise Bing Maps account API key, you will remain supported through June 30, 2028. Blackbaud can issue new Enterprise account keys, so if you are not on an Enterprise Bing Maps account, please do reach out to Support to request that key to be provisioned for you. Blackbaud is currently researching and scoping potential replacements before the June 30, 2028 end of support date.
