Instagram Hacked - any experience?

Hello! Our Instagram was hacked. It's easily our most robust communication channel and we're heading into our busiest time of the year. It's pretty devastating. We never received a change of email notification and 2FA was turned on. Wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this and successfully recovered their account?

We've tried all the steps suggested on google, reddit, youtube, etc. to no avail. The most common suggestion is to submit your username/email/phone number at instagram.com/hacked and they'll want to verify your identity. However, when we hit submit it loops you back to the help center page.

We've tried via our verified Facebook account and come up empty handed.

We've nearly exhausted all personal connections that might have a contact at Meta and we're now trying to contact our state reps to see if they might have any contacts.

As of now, there's no way that we've found to actually contact Meta to submit a claim. So I'm wondering if any other museum has been through this and can offer any insight?

Thanks very much in advance!

  • @Claire McCann Hi! I'm sorry this happened. I don't have museum experience, but I do have personal experience with this. My mother's Facebook account was hacked and we reported it, but in the end there was nothing we could do. Facebook (Meta) was not helpful at all in this aspect. We had to create a new account for her and we just lost her old account to the hacker.
