Query for Longtime Members

Hi there Blackbaud Community!

My museum is coming up on our 50th anniversary. As a part of this, we want to publish a list of constituents who have been members for 40 years, 45 years, and 45+ years. The main challenges I currently see are query capabilities and data entry accuracy and consistency. But, maybe there are workarounds out there that I'm not considering. Has anyone worked on a similar project? What are your lessons learned from this experience?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated!

    With the smartfield we have had a problem with our data conversion and it not calculating correctly past the 14 years since we have been with Altru. There was also an issue with finding the field that would not count years of membership that were not consecutive. We were going for a count of years of membership and it didn't matter that they had a gap.

    We ended up excluding years of membership prior to our conversion. Here is what we made under “constituent revenue giving years”

    However to get the years of membership that included years before our conversion we started working on a query and was going to use a count of revenue but then it would not save with the field. Our customer service manager was helping resolve this but we have not gone back to it yet. This is as far as we got with a revenue application query.

    Hopefully any of these helps gets you started. Let me know if you figure the best solution. Yours might be easier if you didn't have a bad conversion like we did.

    Have you considered creating a selection for active members per calendar year? The selection could be included in the query output fields and with Excel review and filtering voodoo records could be identified that meet the desired number of years values.
