Assignment Naming Conventions? (Newbie question!)

Hi folks! We are rolling over from our current LMS to Blackbaud. In our previous LMS, we found it helpful to title assignments using a naming convention that included the course name, and the date assigned, plus the assignment type. This allowed students and their caregivers to quickly identify what may have been assigned when they were absent, what class an assignment was for on their master calendar, and how much their assignment was weighted. Is any naming convention recommended for Blackbaud? Thanks!

  • @Dani Filas I would say that's a great naming convention - just keep in mind that longer assignment titles may get cut off depending on how students or guardians are viewing the assignments. I always recommend at least adding a course code to the assignment title so students/guardians using the Assignment Center can, like you said, see what course an assignment is for at a glance. Best of luck!

  • @Dani Filas As an FYI, Blackbaud made a change a few years ago to no longer require an Assignment Abbreviation; however, there are still reports that depend on having an abbreviation so if you use those reports but your teachers don't enter an assignment abbreviation, the reports will unfortunately not display correctly (see KB articles below).

Please consider voting on this idea: Fix Grade Book Printout Report (from Gradebook) to use Assignment Name (required), not Abbreviation (optional)
