Preparing for Query NXT Web View Only

I would like to know how everyone is preparing to lose the query database view? We have a lot of important complex queries in the database view that we need to transition. How are you guys transitioning. We will start the process shortly, so it will be helpful to get suggestions. As always, thank you for the help.

@Payal Sen Your existing queries also exist in webview.

  • @Marie Stark
No, they don't. We can just see a handful of them in the webview.

@Payal Sen All the folders/categories and queries should be there in RE NXT.

Double check that you don't have a box checked, category selected, type selected etc.

The defaults for this make it often appear things are not there.

  • @JoAnn Strommen No, nothing is checked, and still we just have a handful of them in the web view.

@Payal Sen At the top under Category is All Categories selected? You can also check if anything is selected under Type, Format, and created by.

  • @Marie Stark, all categories, all types, all formats, and all users, still just 26 of them are showing up.

@Payal Sen When you scroll to the bottom it will keep loading more.

Look at what appears folder/category by folder/category. If there are truly only 26 that will show you for sure.

I would search for one of the queries you believe is missing by name, date or other options. See if it will appear.
If can't be found then contact support. Seems odd as all transitioned for other users.

@Payal Sen By any chance are they query lists? I believe those are not currently supported.

@Payal Sen Another thing to keep in mind. On my homepage in Database View, I have queries that I used regularly in folders I have created for the Homepage. Remember if you do this, none of those on the Database Home Page will carry over. The homepage in RE NXT is of course different from database (another frustrating thing from the folks who brought you CHAOS). So keep that in mind, you will have to do your RE NXT Homepage to get them on there by making them favorites in RE NXT. GOOD GRIEF for this MESS.

  • @Joe Moretti Thanks for reminding me to move stuff from the DBMS homepage.

  • @Payal Sen
I believe all queries pull across - if not, you'll need to reach out to support as that's very strange!

My main concern is that this is going to make data cleaning very very difficult for any fields not yet editable (or even visible) in NXT. Please vote for this idea: and leave a comment (Blackbaud are more likely to review ideas that have lots of comments)

Yes, your queries should pull through as well as the categories. @Payal Sen, are you still not seeing your queries show up?

@Payal Sen the above comments are accurate, everything should come over. If you followed all the troubleshooting, then I suggest contacting Blackbaud customer support as a next steps. Below are some helpful tips with transitioning over which should be pretty seamless.

Queries in both views are in synch realtime. So if you're in the middle of working with a query in web view and still feel like classic query is your comfort zone, you can instantly go into database view and pick up with that same query where you left off. The same goes in the other direction. Your queries in database view are all available in web view.

There are some great new features you can take advantage of right now as well. Aside from the great web browser interface, new functionality includes:

    • Copy and paste values using one of operator is a lot easier and you and paste up to 2,000 values
    • Click drag and drop criteria, output and sort fields
    • Search for your queries much faster and easier
    • From the list of queries, you now select to run a query from the query menu to run in the background. You’ll receive a notification when it completes.
    • From the query editor, you can now select to copy a link to the Results tab
    • Export query results in less steps
    • In addition to display My queries only checkbox, you can also filter on Favorites, Recent Queries, and Merged Queries only
    • Ability to open write off records directly from query

Now, for the time being, there are a few limitations but that said some of the content in this post may have as brief a shelf life because Blackbaud is on the fast track in constantly releasing new functionality and features. For now they include:

    • No shortcut to recently accessed queries
    • No right-clicking options in web browser
    • Query properties not available
    • No shortcuts to click drag and drop fields to tabs that are not open

As you see the new features clearly outnumber any loss in functionality. However, due to low usage in database view, the following aren't currently planned for web view per Blackbaud Query in Web View Help center in RENXT:

    • Query lists (Note: You can use Lists to add and remove records as you need.)
    • Query control report
    • Giving score queries
    • Visual Basic Application (VBA) fields
    • Median, Mode, and Consecutive Years Giving summary fields
    • NetCommunity fields

If you'd like to see any of the above database view features in web view, you can vote for them in the Idea Bank (link below).

If you're not seeing all your queries, contact your customer service manager immediately and have them troubleshoot with you. If this is a programming glitch, your CSM needs to know about it and help get it fixed.

Also, about the favorite queries - I have added a LOT of favorite queries but it looks like they limited us to only showing 5 categories. I have favorites spread across numerous categories but I can only access the favorites in 5 of these categories. With this current system I will have to recategorize all my queries so the ones I need a quick link to are only in five categories.
